Situated atop a hill, the Cross of the Martyrs was constructed to provide a memorial for the 21 friars who were killed during the Pueblo Indian Revolt of 1680. The steps leading up to the monument feature plaques inscribed with tidbits about the city's 400-year history, and the view from the monument itself is stunning, offering a look right over the city itself. The monument is located in Old Fort Marcy Park, set just east of downtown.
