Part of the Museum of New Mexico system, the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture preserves, explores and interprets artifacts culled from archaeological digs of Native American communities that once existed throughout the Southwest. Exhibitions of native crafts, both ancient and modern, are displayed and contextualized with stories that provide further enlightenment about the diverse and complex societies that have historically occupied the region. Children can explore these cultures in the Discovery Center, an educational play area filled with Native American-themed activities, stories and games. It is located on the southern side of the city on Museum Hill, along with the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, Museum of International Folk Art and Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian.
